About the Conference
Welcome to the 27th ACHPER International-National conference website. The biennial ACHPER conferences have a long history of engaging international and national scholars, physical education and health teachers, sport coaches and other allied professionals in the sharing of practice, contestation of ideas and the development of future partnerships. The last conference, in Brisbane 2009, attracted over 350 delegates and presenters.
The 27th ACHPER International-National Conference occurs in exciting times for Health and Physical Education in Australia. HPE has been announced as a priority within phase three of the Australian National Curriculum implementation and ACARA has advertised a HPE position to begin work on this development. Tremendous possibilities present for HPE in the context of National Curriculum development. This conference occurs at the beginning of the National Curriculum development process for HPE and a great opportunity exists for the profession through this Conference. It will provide vision, direction and initiative for what HPE could be with Twenty First Century thinking about learning in, through and about human movement in physical education, sport in education, recreation, health education, and health promotion. It will also develop a greater understanding of how moving enhances learning and provide creative ways to develop a more engaging ‘active curriculum’ in the classroom.
The keynote speakers have been chosen by the Conference Program Committee for their awareness of current developments in teaching, learning, physical activity provision and health promotion in Australia and Internationally. We recommend each to you as a leader in their field who will open your eyes to challenges and possibilities for our profession and your work. The conference program will bring to life the vision of the conference theme, Moving, Learning and Achieving with a good mix of theory and practical applications for your professional practice.
