The Project
The eat well be active - Primary Schools project is funded by SA Health and co-managed with the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) aiming to build the capacity of schools.
The eat well be active - Primary Schools project gives schools an opportunity to work with an appointed Service Provider for an extended 2 years until December 2013 to build and promote sustainable curriculum outcomes and to provide supportive environments for healthy eating and physical activity.
This initiative has been phased into 129 schools with enrolement in Reception to Year 7 since its commencement in Term 2, 2009.
ACHPER (SA) has been contracted as a Service Provider by SA Health since Term 2 2009, and is currently working with 86 schools.
Aims
The eat well be active - Primary Schools Project aims to build capacity of schools to provide supportive environments for healthy eating and physical activity.
Project Outcomes
- Increase children's physical activity levels
- Decrease children's sedentary leisure time behaviours
- Increase consumption of water, fruit and vegetables
- Decrease consumption of energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods and drinks
